Claudia Lee Black is an Australian and American actress best known for playing Aeryn Sun in the science fiction series Farscape, Vala Mal Doran in Stargate SG-1 and Sharon "Shazza" Montgomery in the film Pitch Black, as well as for her extensive voice work in games such as Dragon Age, Mass Effect and Uncharted.
Early Life
Claudia Lee Black was born on 11 October 1972 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, to medical academics Jules and Judy Black. Raised in a Jewish family, she attended the Anglican Kambala School and later spent long periods living abroad in New Zealand, Spain, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States before settling in Los Angeles.
Career
Black began acting on Australian television in the early 1990s in series such as A Country Practice and City Life before gaining international attention as Peacekeeper officer Aeryn Sun in Farscape. She went on to join the cast of Stargate SG-1 as Vala Mal Doran and appeared in films including Pitch Black and Queen of the Damned. From the mid 2000s she became a prolific voice performer in games such as Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Uncharted, Destiny and Gears of War while continuing television work in projects like The Originals, Containment, Ahsoka and the Starz series Spartacus: House of Ashur, where she plays the Roman noblewoman Cossutia.
