Ivana Baquero Macías is a Spanish actress best known for her breakthrough role as Ofelia in Guillermo del Toro’s dark fantasy film “Pan’s Labyrinth”, for which she won the Goya Award for Best New Actress. She later gained international recognition through roles in the MTV fantasy series “The Shannara Chronicles” and the Netflix period mystery “High Seas”, as well as various Spanish and international film projects.

Early Life

Ivana Baquero was born on 11 June 1994 in Barcelona, Spain, to Iván Baquero and Julía Macías. She grew up in a multilingual environment, learning Spanish, Catalan and English, and attended the American School of Barcelona. She began acting professionally as a child around the age of eight, appearing in small roles in Spanish horror and fantasy films while continuing her schooling.

Career

Baquero’s early film work includes roles in “Romasanta”, “Rottweiler”, “Fragile”, and the TV projects “Películas para no dormir: Cuento de Navidad” and “Maria i Assou”. Her international breakthrough came in 2006 when she was chosen from hundreds of young actresses to play Ofelia in “Pan’s Labyrinth”, a role that earned her the Goya Award for Best New Actress and multiple international accolades.
